The Perfect Custom Fuel Map - PART 1

Frankenstein's fuel map tuning dashboard for the perfect custom map

A little theory of Fuel Injection

Today's fuel injected motorcycles demand different attention to details than previous generation carburated engines. There are several fuel injection setups available across different manufacturers. Tougher and tougher emission regulations are pretty much demanding fuel injected, O2 sensor controlled configurations.

O2 sensors are used to monitor the Air Fuel ratio (AF ratio) of the engine. Why is the AF ratio an important measurement/factor for the operation of an engine?

The AF ratio represents the mixture between air and fuel. For gasoline operated engines the optimal fuel efficiency AF ratio is 14.7:1 - thats 14.7 parts of air and 1 part of gasoline/fuel. Most modern engines however produce maximum power at 13.2:1. So what's the deal with these metrics?

MT-01 meets it's Master

admin | 13 January, 2006 09:21

Turns out the MT-01 finally meets it's Master. Insiders say an MT-01 made it onto the dyno of Patrick Racing in preperation for a complete overhaul. The bike is looking at a full blown 110 ci kit with ported heads, cams and some of the Yamaha racing components. More details to follow soon. I hope to get some sneak pics in a few weeks to share.

As most of you know Patrick Racing has become the leader in Warrior and Star related engine upgrade work. It will be interesting to see what they can do to the MT-01 to make it scream.

My bet is at 115-120 rwhps and some 120+ ftlbs of torque.

Now the big questions is: Will I ever get a chance to ride that Monster?

Yamaha MT-01 Frankenstein's Mod List

admin | 23 October, 2005 09:13

So people have asked me what I would modify first with the MT-01. I will stay away from the looks department in this quick write up as I really like the looks of the bike. So what does the bike need for performance? As with the Warrior the engine needs more air in and out. (Click here for the entire article)

So Yamaha refuses to get the MT-01 onto the US market. What can you do? You go on vacation and rent one where they do sell 'em. In my case a recent trip to Austria presented the perfect opportunity. Off I went to a local Yamaha dealer for a 5 day rental of an MT-01. Here is the story about the bike, the trip, all the ins and outs.
